As with many Realtors, my interest in the profession was sparked by my own personal experience.
Some years ago, my husband and I were the nosy young neighbors intending to sneak a peek at a Sunday afternoon Open House in our own neighborhood. The house was only a couple blocks away from our little ranch and we often admired it when we passed by. Long story short, by the end of that day, we had put an offer on that coveted house and listed ours with the same Realtor. Two weeks later, another Realtor produced our buyer and a few weeks after that, we moved into our dream home. Actually, it was kind of a nightmare because of the decor which surprised my husband. "I thought you loved this house!" "I loved the bones, not the decorating!".
I realized at that point that I could see past other people's decorating, yet knew instinctively that when we were marketing our home, it had to look perfect, which had helped it sell in two weeks. This was way before HGTV and the concept of "staging" hadn't been invented. Also, every Realtor who showed it complemented me on how well it showed as they were leaving. We always sat on the porch when people were looking because our agent advised us that buyers are always more comfortable when the seller is out of eyesight and earshot. Anyway, I thought being a Realtor seemed like a pretty easy job. Maybe I'd look into it.
In 1989, I got my license and quickly found out that there's a lot more to being a Realtor than meets the eye. There are always new innovations and new rules and regulations. The market changes with the wind sometimes, and Realtors need to adapt. There are mandatory classes and a wealth of new information that must be explored and learned to make sure the public is being served in the best possible way. It helps to genuinely want to help people with what can be one of the most stressful and nerve-wracking life experiences. The purchase and sale of a home.
I have been a Century21 Agent for the bulk of my career in Real Estate. The support from the Corporate office and my own Broker in particular is second to none. Even though we operate as independent agents, the exchange of ideas and information and camaraderie among the agents in our office makes for a very pleasant and comfortable place to do this important work.
If you are looking for your first home, or need to downsize or move up, please feel free to contact me with no obligation. If we feel that I can meet your needs, I would love to help you with your own Real Estate Dream.
